John Marriott

The works in John Marriott's exhibition Afterimages draw upon imagery, marks and forms from iconic to commonplace. The works develop languages unto themselves, creating passages in which received knowledge is repurposed and where inner and outer experience intersect and entwine.

R.M. Vaughan has written in the Globe and Mail that "Marriott's work is simply too much fun, too mischievous and yet exquisitely be overlooked" and Canadian Art magazine has reported "Sidestepping post-conceptualism's usual one-liner pitfall, Marriott makes smartly parodic works that outlast the initial chuckle. His multidisciplinary pieces merge disparate objects and narratives to upturn modernist ideals and invite visceral responses."
